The Palliative Performance Scale (PPS)

The PPS is a validated and reliable tool that can be used to assess a patient’s ability to function and help to guide patients, families and their medical professionals determine when to have goals-of-care conversations.

Hospice care may be appropriate for patients with a PPS score of less than 70% because it is consistent with a survival of less than 6 months.
